Crackley Wood - Lower Ladyes Hill 4 miles

We dodged the predicted heavy rain. The walk was mostly on tarmac footpaths and so avoided mud. Well done, Peter W. Family and friends are invited to our next walk on New Years Day.

Happy Christmas to All!

Edgcote - Trafford Bridge 4.65 miles - Wed 3rd July - Battlefield walk

Leaders Derek Darby (774254 or 07928285642) & Brian Clarke (494633 or 07941551418)

This was a beautiful walk in the rolling Northamptonshire countryside. The long wet grass at the beginning reminded me not to wear cotton trousers on a ramble. Brian found us an excellent place for lunch at Barns Farm Plants Garden centre, in Upper Wardington SP 493 459.

 Directions
Take the M40 South. At J11 (Banbury) take the first left onto the A361 towards Daventry. After about 3 miles, at a pub, take a sharp right turn signposted Edgcote. After 0.75 miles park on the left on the grass verge after a group of houses as directed. Try and leave the road clear as farm lorries may need to pass. Please share cars as parking is very limited. See you at 10 a.m.

The Battle of Edgcote 1469 took place nearby on Danes Moor. See leaflet below.
The White Queen TV series currently on ITV on Sunday evening mentions the battle and takes place during this period. Warwick the Kingmaker plays a prominent part.

Corley Moor - Holly Berry End 4 miles Wed 20th Feb

We had a good walk on a cold day led by David.  I think it was my muddiest walk ever. Admittedly, you could not always see the mud but that was because it was under 6 inches of water. No-one drowned! So the muddy boots award is passed on to David.

Muddy Boots Award to Bob and Sylvia!

That was muddy! I think it appropriate after recent walks that we introduce a muddy boots award.
I hereby present the muddy boots award to Bob and Sylvia! It was hard to beat Peter W's and Peter B's walks for mud but they did it!

Welcombe Hills 3.6 miles - Wed 6th Feb

It was a good walk and morning out and we did not lose anybody. I had not realised that the path from the car park to the Welcombe hills existed.

Wednesday 16 January 2013

Bubbenhall - Wappenbury Wood 4.3 miles

Peter W led us. The route shown is as walked. The farmer(s) had ploughed everywhere and so we had to detour a few times as you can see. It was not quite as muddy as Peter B's walk but close. It was nice to see the snow on the ground in the wood.

Wednesday 2 January 2013

Chesterton - Kingston 4 miles

Peter B retains the record for the muddiest walk (and the muddiest last mile)! This one was not too bad. Only one person (John R) noticed the deviation from the route we put in to test you. We shortened the walk by about 0.5 mile. You can see the actual route in red below (4.05 miles) and the one we recce'd (4.6 miles) in blue. If you do print the walk you will find I have amended the actual track walked to fit the green path marked on the map just before the end of the walk and the church. Happy new year!
