Brinklow - Kings Newnham 5.3 miles Wed Nov 16th

Leaders Derek Darby Tel. 774254 or 07941443043 & Brian Clarke 474633 or 0794155141

Start at 10 a.m. This is a pleasant walk. There is only one stile. It is a high one. The first couple of miles is along Cathiron lane a beautiful quiet country road. We plan to stop at least twice for short breaks. Brian and I are planning to go to the Bull's Head in Brinklow for lunch. Please join us. (£12 pounds for two hot meals. £2 for an Americano. It is a nice, popular pub.) If you would like a map of the route I can email you one.

Directions.
Take the Fosse Way north.  After a sharp left turn right into Broad Street, Brinklow. Pass the first pub on the right and park on the left in the little road off  Broad street (Fosse Way), opposite the church and second pub in Brinklow. If no space, park in  the public car park in Barr lane, in Brinklow, just before the little road.

Wed 7 Sept Sibford Ferris - Burdrop 5.2 miles

 Explorer Map 191 GR 353372

Follow A429 then A34 to Shipston on Stour. Follow B4035 to Sibford Ferris (26 miles).

On arrival in Sibford Ferris turn right along Main Street and where road bends left bear right and park in Woodway road on the right.

Allow 40 - 45 minutes for the journey. It is well worth it!! 10.00 a.m. start as usual. If you let me know you are coming we will wait a few minutes for you.

This is one of my favourite areas to walk in. We will have two banana stops. The second will be by Sibford Gower village pond below. Two benches provided! No ducks.

It is an interesting excellent walk. The undulating countryside is beautiful as are the villages. We pass by Temple Mill farm and the interestingly named Traitors's ford. There are only 2 stiles, which can be avoided, and a couple of short steep climbs.  Plus one long not so steep climb. We have had very good sandwiches at the Wykham Arms in Sibford Gower and some of us will have lunch there. We pass there on the latter stage of the walk so it would be possible for some to cut the walk short there (about 4 miles) and be collected later.

Wed 20 July Napton - Chapel Green 4.4 miles

We had a good walk on one of the hottest days this year, led by Bob and Sylvia. We saw water buffaloes (marked on the map). They looked more docile than the ones I saw when I lived in  East Africa. However, we drove hundreds of miles before seeing them, in a game park. These are just down the road! The map is available below.

Wed July 6th Wroxton - North Newington 4.2 miles

Leaders Derek (07941443043) and Brian

There is information about the obelisk we will see and other information about the walk on the link just below. This is a very good walk. It is fairly flat. Not too many stiles. Wroxton is near Banbury.

Local Information Some of this is also on the map you can print below.

The White Horse Inn in Wroxton is popular with ramblers and does a nice lunch.  Some of us plan to have lunch. You could get back to Warwick around 2.30  to 3 p.m. No guarantees!

Explorer Map 191 GR 414417 Postcode OX15 6P

There are roadworks at Gaydon. So I suggest take the Fosse Way B4455 , turn left on B4086 for Kineton, take a right in Kineton onto Tyso Road and then eventually take a left onto the A422 towards Banbury.  Wroxton is on the right. Park near the village pond. About 22 miles from Warwick.

Wellesbourne to Charlecote is 4 miles not 5.5 miles

I am sitting here a few hours after cancelling the Shenington ramble looking at glorious sunshine in Warwick. "I don't believe it". I assure you that last night and this morning at 7 a.m. the Met Office weather forecast for Shenington area was atrocious, which is why we cancelled it.  It still looks bad in Shenington.

Anyway, David has asked me to inform you that the next walk
Wellesbourne to Charlecote is 4 miles and not as advertised 5.5 miles. Parking instructions remain the same. The map available in the blog (Our Walks tab) has been changed accordingly.

Further details to follow in about a week.

Wed March 2nd - Shenington - Epwell 4.4 miles

This is a New Walk.
Leaders Derek and Brian
Spring is on the way! Put away your anaraks (in your rucksack!). 10.am. start as usual. Please share cars as roads are narrow in the village and parking tight.

It is a very good ramble in the Cotswolds, east of Banbury. There are many stiles, I am afraid, most not too difficult. The walk is undulating with 1 or 2 steep but short hills. It is a lollipop shaped walk. That is, it is roughly 2 miles from Shenington to Epwell (pronounced Epéll, I am told. Then a banana break and a stroll around the village, if you are up to it or a rest if you are not. Keep your eyes open for the unusual sundial. Then we return the same route to Shenington. Both Shenington and Epwell are typical Cotswold villages.

Explorer Map 191 GR 372428
SatNav OV15 6NQ

I have put the postcode above for your satnav. Negotiate the major road works at Gaydon and turn right onto the B4100. After about 2 miles and after Temple Herdewyke turn right. After about 6 miles (through Edgehill) turn left onto B4086. Turn left onto A422 towards Banbury for just over a mile and then turn right to Shenington, turn right, right again, left near a church, and park near the Bell Inn as directed.
(about 35 mins drive)

Smartphone owners - request for help

There have been 2/3 incidents recently on rambles where ambulances have been called. WDU3A are thinking about the best procedures to follow. I wonder, if you have a smart phone, you could download OS Locate app (info below) and let me know what you think. Often we don't know the postcode when on a ramble. No need to ring for an ambulance!!!!

***************************************************************************
The West Midland ambulance service can use a grid reference as well as a postcode to find you in an emergency.

Ring 112 on your mobile or 999

Give the map reference of where you are in the form AB XXX XXX where A and B are letters and the Xs are numbers.
Example.  SP 244 545

If you have a smart phone a quick way to find the map reference of where you are standing is to use the app OS locate produced by the Ordnance Survey.  Use your smartphone to download OS Locate from Google Play or from the link just below.

https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/shop/os-locate

When you open OS Locate it simply displays your map reference. It can also act as a compass.
